Democratic space has been preserved under PBBM ?

Democratic space has been preserved under PBBM ? by Christian Jay Laya The concept of "democratic space" refers to the extent to which citizens can freely express themselves, engage in political activities, and hold those in power accountable. During the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., this notion has been subject to diverse interpretations and debates. On one hand, supporters may argue that democratic space has been preserved or expanded under his leadership, citing instances of free elections, active civic participation, and the relatively vibrant discourse online and in traditional media. They might point to specific initiatives or programs aimed at strengthening democratic institutions. On the other hand, critics may contend that there are threats to democratic space, such as instances of red-tagging, the suppression of dissent, or the handling of press freedom. Concerns about accountability and transparency could also be raised, particularly in relation...

The Right to Use One’s Salary Effectively for Family and Personal Use

The Right to Use One’s Salary Effectively for Family and Personal Use by Christian Jay Laya  A person’s salary is one of the most significant sources of financial stability in their life. It is the result of their hard work, dedication, and contribution to society. Beyond serving as a means to meet daily expenses, a salary holds the power to shape one’s future, provide for loved ones, and support personal growth. It is not just a form of compensation but an essential tool that enables individuals to exercise their rights and responsibilities as workers, family providers, and self-sustainers. The right to effectively use one’s salary for both family and personal needs is not only an individual privilege but a crucial aspect of maintaining a balanced, fulfilling life. At its core, salary represents the value of a person’s labor. It is earned through commitment and the application of one’s skills and expertise. As such, it rightfully belongs to the individual who has worked to earn ...

Public funds are not personal resources

Public funds are not personal resources or gifts from government officials—they come from the taxes and contributions of the people. These funds are meant to serve the public good and address the needs of the community. It is the duty and responsibility of public officials to use these funds effectively and transparently to deliver basic services, build infrastructure, and implement programs that benefit everyone.   Public service is not a platform for self-promotion or seeking adoration for simply fulfilling one's job description. Praises are unnecessary for performing the basics of governance—what is expected of leaders is accountability, integrity, and a genuine commitment to uplift the lives of their constituents. Ultimately, public officials should remember that their role is to serve, not to be celebrated for doing what is inherently their duty.

Recap of Activities: January 13, 2025  Today was a productive and eventful day filled with diverse activities that highlight both community engagement and professional responsibilities. The day began with attending the weekly flag-raising ceremony, a simple yet meaningful tradition that fosters unity and discipline among public servants.   Following this, I joined the 41st General Assembly of the BATODO Irrigators Association in Baluntay, Alabel. During the event, I had the opportunity to document the oathtaking ceremony of the newly elected officials of the association, a significant moment that marks the beginning of their term in service to the community.   Another notable event was documenting the courtesy call of former Sarangani Governor and now ALDEV President, Miguel Rene A. Dominguez. His visit underscored his continued commitment to the development of the province, inspiring those in attendance. Similarly, I documented the New Year’s call of the ...

Success is not a race

Image
It's natural to feel disheartened when comparing your journey to others, especially when it seems like your contemporaries are achieving success faster. But remember, success is not a race—it's a personal journey that unfolds at its own pace. Delayed success doesn’t mean failure; it often means you are being prepared for something greater. Each challenge you face, every struggle you overcome, is building resilience, character, and wisdom. Sometimes, the most meaningful achievements come later, and they’re all the sweeter because of the patience and perseverance it took to get there. Instead of pitying yourself, take pride in the steps you’ve already taken. Celebrate your small victories, learn from setbacks, and focus on your unique path. Success isn't just about arriving; it’s about growing into the person you’re meant to be. Your time will come, and when it does, it will be worth every delay. Keep believing, keep striving, and trust that your journey is unfolding as it s...
