A Biographical Account


Paterno in his aging years (74 yrs. old)



            Paterno Mayordomo Sope (born on August 29, 1940 – died on October 19, 2015) was a father of seven children and a husband of Presentacion Cayetuna Navarro. He was Filipino entrepreneur, a former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) and a skilled carpenter. Paterno was also known as Tatay Pater by his relatives and Lolo Pater by his grandchildren or mga apo.

Biography


            Paterno was born on August 29, 1940 in the municipality of Oton, a town in the Province of Ilo-Ilo in the Panay Island, Visayas, the Philippines. His father was Bonifacio Sope, an Ilonggo from Parian, Ilo-Ilo who married Perpetua Mayordomo of Oton, Ilo-Ilo. The family of Paterno went to Island of Mindanao, a southernmost part of the Philippines. They settled in outlying barrio in the Municipality of Dadiangas (present-day General Santos City, South Cotabato) known as Alabel (present-day Municipality of Alabel, Sarangani Province).

Paterno’s Conjugal Life


            Paterno married Presentacion Navarro, a Cebuana who came from Cagayan de Oro. They were hallowed to have seven children namely: Rosela, Bonifacio, Salvador, Apolinario, Carlos, Rosalina and Arnold. Paterno worked hard to support his family’s need.
